Dwain and Polly Wright Educational Scholarship Fund
The Dwain and Polly Wright Educational Scholarship Fund was established by the family of John Dwain Wright and Lillian Pauline (Polly) Wright in memory of their faithful support of Macon Public Schools and their belief in the limitless ability of Macon Senior High School students. The scholarship was established to provide support to graduating high school students pursuing a post-secondary education.
John Dwain Wright played a central role in establishing the Macon Area Vocational-Technical School and he taught Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Electrical Wiring, and Welding within his 23 years of service to Macon Public Schools. As a former local business owner, Dwain sought to facilitate a successful career for students who searched for a vocation by tirelessly encouraging their educational endeavors. His legacy is evident by the number of successful business leaders in and around the Macon, Missouri region.
Lillian Pauline (Polly) Wright, a longtime Macon R-I parent, patron, and life-long supporter of education, emphasized and developed efforts to encourage students to become adept in the areas of English and Language Arts. Polly epitomized outstanding citizenship within the Macon, Missouri community with a strong commitment to family values and active leadership in the Macon Public Schools throughout her life.
The students eligible for assistance shall be:
- graduating seniors from Macon High School;
- who have completed at least two English, Language Arts or Vocational classes; and
- have been accepted to attend a two or four year college, university and/or technical school to further their education.
Applicants must have recommendations from at least three current Macon High School faculty or staff members on the basis of citizenship, courtesy to others, and active support for their school. Preference will be given to students pursuing vocational or technical training or a degree in English or Language Arts.
Two students will be awarded $500 each:
1 for the Dwain Wright Scholarship for vocational students going to college or trade school
1 for the Polly Wright Scholarship for college-bound students majoring in English.
This scholarship is non-renewable.
