David K. Smoot Innovation Memorial Scholarship for KSU Students

The David K. Smoot Innovation Memorial Scholarship honors a visionary mechanical engineer and World War II veteran whose legacy continues to shape the future of sustainable innovation. After serving his country, David earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University and went on to revolutionize pneumatic conveying through groundbreaking designs and entrepreneurial leadership.
This scholarship supports students at Kansas State University pursuing majors within the Global Center for Grain and Food Innovation. It reflects David’s belief in research-driven problem-solving and his commitment to advancing agriculture through forward-thinking solutions. By investing in students who share his passion for sustainability and innovation, the scholarship carries forward his mission to improve life on Earth through engineering excellence and purposeful inquiry.

Students eligible for this scholarship shall be:
High School Seniors with a 3.0 GPA planning to attend Kansas State University; or
Current College Students with a 2.5 GPA attending Kansas State University

This scholarship is designed for students passionate about sustainability, innovation, and making a meaningful impact through their field of study. We’re especially interested in curious applicants driven by research and eager to solve real-world challenges with forward-thinking ideas.
