Burns Family Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship for students pursuing a degree that have demonstrated perseverance and promise.

This scholarship is aimed at recognizing and supporting individuals who have demonstrated exceptional perseverance, leadership, and a commitment to both academic and community growth.

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates the following qualities:

  1. Overcoming Hardship and Perseverance: The applicant has faced and overcome significant personal, financial, or societal challenges, showing resilience, determination, and the ability to persevere through adversity.
  2. Academic Excellence: A strong academic record, demonstrating commitment to learning and intellectual growth. While no specific GPA is required, the student must show consistent dedication and improvement.
  3. Leadership and Service: Active involvement in leadership roles, community service, or extracurricular activities that reflect the student’s ability to positively impact others and contribute to their community.
  4. Diverse Perspectives and Experiences: The applicant brings unique perspectives, backgrounds, or life experiences that enrich their academic environment and foster inclusivity.

Re-Application

A student may re-apply and receive up to one additional award (for a total of 2 awards per credential they work on) and it may be in non-consecutive years while pursuing the same undergraduate credential. The re-applicant does not need to answer the above questions again but should be in good standing at their place of higher learning and should provide an update of around 300 words on what they have learned since first applying and what sorts of activities they have engaged in to expand their world view.
